Volunteer Appreciation – The big things

April 26, 2024

Throughout the week we looked at the variety of ways volunteers help us serve the community. What about the larger groups that come in?

All volunteer needs, including large volunteer groups, are coordinated through our Director of Volunteer Services. Depending on the season and current need, groups may be asked to help with special projects. There are a variety of tasks that large groups are helpful with.

Our annual Empty Bowls fundraiser is successful with the assistance of many volunteers for the entire process. We require volunteers for planning, set up, auction assistance, serving, clean up, and any other detail that arises. In March, our volunteers helped us serve over 650 community members who attended.

Anyone or group looking to volunteer at OUR Center meets with our Director of Volunteer Services, Julie Lupien, to coordinate and discuss expectations. In 2023, over 1,000 volunteers provided 44,618 hours of service. Each week, we need 250 volunteers to support our mission. Our volunteer needs are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p, except on Tuesdays when we stay open until 6:00. Volunteers can serve every week or fill in when your schedule meets our needs. Volunteers must be at least 16.
