Culinary Arts Program
OUR Center’s Culinary Arts Program – Supported Employment Program
One of the driving forces behind the OUR Center’s Culinary Arts Program was local Longmont food services’ (restaurants, hotels, caterers, etc.) request for quality and long-term culinary employees. According to the food service industry in Longmont, this is currently one of, if not the biggest, challenge facing them.
The goal of this new program is to prepare underemployed, unemployed, previously incarcerated persons and/or homeless adults for careers in the food service industry. The Culinary Arts Program will help change lives by giving those with an interest in the culinary arts a skill for life.
Participants will receive hands-on training by a Culinary Trained Chef. Some of the topics that will be taught include: knife skills, food & kitchen safety, cooking methods & techniques, stock fundamentals, eggs, soups, salads & vinaigrettes, meat, poultry, fish, seasonings, rice & grains, legumes & vegetables, basic plating, baking & breads, leadership skills, conflict resolution, and other critical job skills.
Must be 18 years or older.
No Experience Needed.
Must complete entire curriculum to receive certification.
Must be willing to partner with an OUR Center Resource Specialist throughout the course.
