Without coming together to find food, shelter, and resources, human beings would not exist today. From the beginning, it was known that being a part of a community not only helps us to survive, but to thrive. Community is so much more than just the people that live in your vicinity. It’s a group of people that you can count on when times get difficult and you need a helping hand. It’s your friends, family, and neighbors. Here at OUR Center, our goal is to strengthen the bond that we have with those around us and to provide a support network for the citizens of Longmont.

So what does community mean to you? In this blog post, we’ll let you know a little bit about what it means to us and the services that we provide. If you would like to learn more about our community center, would like to volunteer, or looking to donate, then give us a call today, or simply drop by because we would love to see you!

Being a Support Network

There comes a time in every person’s life where things don’t go their way. Whether it’s financial problems, health concerns, family issues, or what have you. For anyone, dealing with tough times alone can seem nearly impossible. That’s why, as a community, we must be there for them. From the little things like helping your neighbor bring in their groceries to the big things, such as providing families with the food that they need. That is what community is all about.

There is nothing more important than family, and it’s no secret that some families suffer more than others. Here at Our Center, we consider all of our participants as part of our own family, and we want to make sure that they can take care of theirs. We proudly offer multiple services in order to do this. From providing adult and child education to childcare for those struggling to find a babysitter, we’re here to help.

Encouraging Self-Sufficiency

One of our favorite things to say is that “We offer a hand up, not a hand out”, and that’s because we want to help everyone in our community achieve self-sufficiency. We have multiple classes that encourage this including:

  • Budget Counseling
  • Life Skills Classes
  • Financial Skills Classes
  • Nutrition Lessons
  • And More

When we think about community, one word always seems to pop into mind — friendship. No matter if it is a neighbor or if it is a stranger, community means being a friend to those in need. We all need a little help from time to time, and you want to make sure that you’re there for those who need it.

We’re proud of our community, and even more proud to be a support network here in Longmont for those looking for it. Whether you’re in need of our assistance or would like to lend a helping hand, please contact us today, and keep a look out for events that we throw and volunteer at.
