Wise and Compassionate Ways to Help the Poor

We’ve all been there. Someone, obviously poor or homeless, approaches you and asks for money. What do you do? What does your church do? Do you give money, knowing it may be used on drugs or alcohol or do you say “no” or even ignore the person as you walk by or do you send them away if they come to your church? No one wants to be a sucker in these situations but at the same time Jesus’ call to help the poor echoes in our hearts and minds.

A five-week class will be offered to help you discern appropriate Christ-centered actions when it comes to addressing poverty on a personal or organizational level. You will also better understand the resources available in the community.

  • Making Compassionate Decisions
  • Churches’ and Organizations’ Response

Free breakfast weekdays (9:30-10:30) and free hot lunch 7 days/week (11:30-1:00). Food pantry distributes food via voucher system to residents of the St. Vrain Valley. Donations of food and personal care items are accepted at this facility.

Warming Center
(temporary emergency shelter in severe winter weather)

Temporary, nighttime shelter, meals, and referrals for adults who are homeless in severe winter weather (when temperature is 30 degrees or below and wet).

Staff and volunteers provide food vouchers, rent and utility assistance, local transportation, minor medical prescriptions, emergency shelter referrals, budget counseling, and agency information. The Volunteer Program Office coordinates volunteer needs for all facilities. Donations of cash and gift cards are accepted at this facility.
Hours 8:00 to 4:00 weekdays.
Child Care Center
(Infant, Toddlers, Pre-School, and Pre-K Programs)

High-quality childcare and preschool education is provided for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Fees based on parent income. Capacity is 60 children. Qualistar certified.
